ENTRY SALARY: $44,148.26 ANNUALLY

Under general supervision, the Traffic Engineering Assistant performs non-technical and limited technical field and office work in the collection and analysis of data essential to the evaluation and management of traffic problems.
 
Examples of dutiesEssential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Conducts, performs, and provides field investigation and evaluation; makes, creates, and prepares studies relative to urban traffic and accident surveys, traffic counts, and condition analysis. 
  • Operates, installs, and maintains special instruments and devices for recording movements and volumes of traffic, such as traffic counters, tally counters, stop watches, and other special measuring devices. 
  • Reduces field notes and compiles summary and analysis sheets; constructs evaluative reports and documents.
  • Performs investigations on the existing condition of signs and surface markings; reports areas of issues or non-compliance.
  • Prepares drawings and maps using standard drafting techniques and skills; prepares charts, illustrations, and graphs for the presentation of traffic engineering data. 
  • Engages, responds, and answers the public in regards to complaints or concerns; makes preliminary field investigations to determine nature of public complaints; identifies problems and performs problem solving tasks using minimal resources. 
  • Performs clerical and general office tasks and routine duties.
  • Inspects parking lots for compliance with proposed plans; evaluates plans and engineering specifications.
  • Operates and uses microcomputers in processing work products.
  • Works closely with other departments and divisions in coordinating projects that involve neighborhood improvements.
  • Performs related tasks as assigned.
QualificationsLicenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required. 

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED PLUS  One (1) years' experience in engineering, clerical, and record keeping or related field, preferably including some experience in GIS, Databases, Spreadsheets or asset Management.; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  
 
Supplemental informationKnowledge of
  • Drafting, basis statistics, and basic mathematics.
  • Rules and regulations for driving and traffic conditions.
  • Traffic control devices, design standards, and other manuals provided by the FDOT.

  • Preparing and submitting clear and concise verbal reports and written summaries on traffic studies.
