The Assistant Finance Manager will play a key role in ensuring robust financial management and control across Revenue Scotland. You will be responsible for performing reconciliations, supporting delivery of statutory accounts, managing payment processes and ensuring compliance with public finance regulations and standards.
You will be a key member of the finance function, within an organisation with the responsibility for the collection of over £1 billion of tax revenue that supports public services in Scotland and has to be properly accounted for. This role offers the postholder the opportunity to develop skills across all aspects of Finance and engage widely across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- To lead on Bank Reconciliation processes including finding solutions to resolving discrepancies.
- To lead on operational finance matters with regards to devolved taxes, including the processing of high value repayments.
- Act as Finance Subject Matter Expert for system/process improvement initiatives involving devolved taxes system and devolved taxes finance system.
- To lead on production of Cash Management and Devolved Taxes reports each month and submit to Scottish Government.
- To play a key role in the preparation and collation of the Revenue Scotland Annual Report and Accounts (Resource and Devolved Taxes) and liaise with external audit, including assisting in the coordination of year-end accruals and prepayments and prepare relevant analyses
- To support the financial accountant in the analysis and monitoring of all operating costs including preparation of budget holder packs
- To assist with the review of information on non-current assets
- To review suspense accounts daily and attend regular discussions with Tax colleagues to reconcile and clear.
- To work with the Financial Accountant and Tax Colleagues to review and reconcile Aged Debt Reporting, providing regular monthly updates to Finance Manager, Head of Finance and Tax colleagues.
- To assist with the provision of financial advice across Revenue Scotland and link with Business areas on a regular basis.
- Line management of the Finance Administrator.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be part CCAB qualified or willing to work towards a financial qualification.

Working Pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week, we offer a range of flexible and hybrid working options. Our hybrid working principles require you to attend your assigned office, Victoria Quay, Edinburgh at least 2/3 days each month. Our hybrid approach supports a blend of home and workplace working, this should be agreed with the line manager to achieve the right balance between collaboration, in-person engagement and flexibility. You can also work from our Glasgow hub office if required.
Security Checks
Successful candidates must complete the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), before they can be appointed. BPSS is comprised of four main pre-employment checks – Identity, Right to work, Employment History and a Criminal Record check (unspent convictions).
