The SME will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of HVAC, cooling, and other mechanical infrastructure, aligning with Vertiv’s mission to deliver mission-critical infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mechanical Systems Design & Optimization:
    • Lead the design of HVAC, cooling, and ventilation systems for data center facilities, ensuring alignment with Vertiv standards and industry best practices.
    • Develop comprehensive mechanical schematics, equipment layouts, and airflow diagrams using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
    • Integrate Vertiv products such as Liebert cooling systems into scalable data center designs.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, structural, and network engineers, to ensure cohesive project delivery.
  2. Performance Analysis & Optimization:
    • Conduct thermal load calculations, airflow analysis, and capacity assessments to optimize mechanical system performance.
    • Implement data-driven strategies to enhance cooling efficiency and minimize energy consumption.
  3. Compliance & Standards:
    • Ensure all mechanical systems comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, and other relevant standards, as well as Vertiv’s internal guidelines.
    • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and commissioning tests to verify system performance and compliance.
  4. Risk Management & Contingency Planning:
    • Identify potential mechanical system risks, including thermal overload, airflow inefficiencies, and equipment failures.
    • Develop contingency plans and emergency response protocols to mitigate risks and maintain uptime.
  5. Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed documentation, including design specifications, as-built drawings, and maintenance manuals.
    • Generate technical reports and recommendations for system upgrades, retrofits, and optimization projects.
  6. Training & Mentorship:
    • Provide training to engineering teams on Vertiv’s mechanical systems, focusing on best practices for design, operation, and maintenance.
    • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline; Master’s preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and operations within data center environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of Vertiv cooling products (e.g., Liebert CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water systems) and their integration in data centers.
  • Proficiency in HVAC design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP).
  • Relevant certifications such as PE, CDCP, or Vertiv product-specific training (e.g., Liebert cooling systems) are highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on optimizing thermal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex mechanical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
