SummarySummary Objective:- The purpose of this position is to assist with inspections, repairs, and maintenance and repair of vehicles, apparatus, equipment, hydraulic and air powered tools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Responds to incidents as directed.
Operates trucks and other motor vehicles.
Performs preventive maintenance inspections and repair work on division vehicles.
Changes and repairs tires on automobiles and service trucks.
Cleans the shop and storage areas.
Assists in the inspection and repair of all light and heavy hydraulic rescue tools, air powered rescue tools and gasoline powered chain saws.
Assists in the maintenance and repair of all mounted and removable firefighting equipment and tools such as nozzles, hooks, valves, ladders, portable and fixed mount generators, fire hose, lights, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), etc.
Assists the Fire Storekeeper and makes parts and supply runs.
Performs related work as assigned.
High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
One (1) year of basic automotive repair experience including engine tune-up and preventive maintenance procedures.
EQUIVALENCY:
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must be of good moral character, with no criminal or felony record inconsistent with the provisions of this paragraph. Unacceptable will be persons who have been convicted of a felony, or who have any criminal action pending against them.
An applicant may be disqualified for multiple misdemeanors, an unacceptable criminal record, or multiple traffic violations.
Applicants who have illegally bought, sold, or trafficked, as defined in KRS 218A.010 and KRS 218A.1431, controlled substances other than marijuana within six years of application will be disqualified.
Applicants who have illegally bought or sold marijuana within one year of application will be disqualified.
Applicants who have used an illegal controlled substance other than marijuana within the last six years of application will be disqualified.
Applicants who have used a prescription-controlled substance without a prescription on a single occasion within the last six years of application will be disqualified for one year since the last use without a prescription.
Applicants who have used a prescription-controlled substance without a prescription more than once within the last six years of application will be disqualified.
Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening.
Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test.
Must pass a medical examination.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
