About Human Resources:
The Human Resources (HR) division provides overall policy direction on human resources management and administrative support to all staff. It oversees various actions to develop the human capital and talent of Harris County Juvenile Probation (HCJPD). This division is responsible for recruitment, hiring, benefits, compensation, organizational development, employee relations and training. HR plays a strategic role in business management and the fostering of a positive workplace culture, which contributes significantly to HCJPD’s overall success.


Position Overview:

The Training Coordinator provides clerical and technical support to the Training and Quality Assurance team. Functions are mostly related to ensuring that the necessary space, materials, notifications, and documentation for departmental training is secured and/or produced.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains updated data in numerous databases related to required training classes for all Department staff.
  • Produces and disseminates handouts, manuals, and other necessary paperwork for departmental training events.
  • Sets up and breaks down training rooms, including moving furniture and equipment, locking or unlocking doors, placing signage.
  • Produces and sends email announcements, reminders, and memos to staff regarding departmental trainings.
  • Assist participants with any questions or concerns related to training, including clarifying expectations, providing directions to training locations, and addressing logistical issues that may arise during the training.
  • Schedules training sessions and booking venues.
  • Files training records in physical and electronic files.
  • Maintains inventory of unit supplies and equipment.
  • Provides information regarding training attendance to appropriate persons.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution with either:
  • Two (2) years of paid experience in an office clerical role.

OR

  • Two (2) years of paid experience in casework, counseling, community or group work in a social service, community, corrections or juvenile agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons. 

    • Years of experience from both areas may be combined to equal the two years.

    • Thirty (30) hours of college credits from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehension of Microsoft Office software and technical skills to set up and trouble shoot training equipment.
  • Knowledge of Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) standards related to the maintenance of employee training records.
  • Ability to enter data and extrapolate information in the TJJD Integrated Certification Information System (ICIS) database.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment when communicating information known to the training unit.
  • Maintain awareness of training unit resource needs and communicate needs to the training unit management.
  • Ability to complete multiple assessments within given time deadlines.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Also requires the ability to demonstrate proficient use of the personal computer and must pass the clerical exam with a score of at least 80%.

Additional Requirements:

  • Upon receiving a conditional job offer, all applicants must undergo a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • All applicants must provide evidence of a tuberculosis (TB) skin test. If the attest result is positive, additional documentation will be required.
  • All employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing, as well as testing based on reasonable suspicion that the employee may be under the influence of a substance prohibited by the county’s drug and alcohol policy during the course and scope of employment.
  • In the event of a public emergency declared by the county, staff may be assigned to other duties, facilities, or departments under the supervision of another county department.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
  • Employees in this position must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's license and maintain liability insurance coverage at least equal to the minimum amounts required by law.
  • Certified copies of educational transcripts and/or college credits will be required during the hiring process.
  • This position involves working with challenging youth where the use of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies may be necessary to ensure the safety of both youth and staff.

Salary: 
  • $46,196.80 - $59,113.60 Annually
  • Depends on Qualifications
