About the Role

As part of the Key Accounts Underwriting team, you will play a key role in managing underwriting performance and broker relationships across allocated key accounts within the national A&H Corporate portfolio.

You will also support new business opportunities generated through the A&H Senior Relationship Manager and branch distribution underwriters, while acting as a technical specialist and referral point to help deliver the product and portfolio objectives set out in the national business plan.

This role will also involve active contribution to profitability improvements and compliance obligations, including supporting product and coverage changes, rate reviews, and the ongoing improvement of policy wordings.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage underwriting and broker relationships across key renewals and new business opportunities allocated by the A&H Corporate Key Account Underwriting Manager.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the broker market.
  • Support key account portfolio management through quarterly analysis, identifying trends and issues, and implementing actions to drive results.
  • Attend key account broker meetings as a technical expert on performance and products.
  • Review and assess individual account referrals, providing underwriting approval within authority and coordinating higher-level sign-off where required.
  • Ensure all business is underwritten, booked, and compensated in line with established guidelines.
  • Use appropriate endorsements and maintain compliance with underwriting standards.
  • Identify training needs and support the development of underwriters to maintain technical, service, and quality standards.
  • Provide guidance and training to underwriting staff and distribution leaders to support A&H business profitability and growth targets.
  • Help foster a high-performance culture through coaching and engagement.
     

What you’ll bring to the role

  • A solutions-focused approach to unique underwriting situations.
  • Strong understanding of pricing techniques and account servicing costs.
  • Knowledge of reserve development by individual case and across a book of business.
  • Working knowledge of key accounts within the industry.
  • Understanding of underwriting appetites across departments and how these relate to interdepartmental accounts.
  • Ability to recommend tailored coverage and manuscript policy wording.
  • Familiarity with key competitors’ products and services.
  • Confidence using a range of negotiation techniques.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions at different levels.
  • Experience training entry-level underwriters and onboarding experienced hires.
