SummaryResponsible for maintaining an aesthetically-pleasing and functional outdoor space. Performs journey level groundskeeper work surrounding County buildings, including mowing, trimming, planting, and equipment care. Cleans parking lots, garages, driveways, and sidewalks. Works under moderate supervision, with reasonable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Duties include and are not limited to planting flowers and shrubbery, mowing lawns, equipment care and communicating with Management. Examples of dutiesPerforms general maintenance of grounds, involving lawn care, trims, cuts and prunes trees and shrubbery on county property and parks, using lawn mower, string trimmer and chainsaw and zero turn mower, etc.
Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged branches, twigs, or leaves.
Waters lawns, shrubs, flowers, and trees. May apply pesticides and/or fertilizer as directed.
Programs and does minor repairs on irrigation and sprinkler systems.
Services and makes minor repairs on lawnmowers, tractors, and other equipment; cleans equipment, hand tools and truck.
Replaces worn or damaged parts, such as hoses, wiring and belts in machines and equipment, such as truck and riding lawnmowers.
Pulls weeds, digs flowerbeds, plants flowers, etc. using gardening tools and applies mulch as needed.
Maintains sprinkler and irrigation systems.
Communicates ordering supplies, equipment, & PPE with Supervisor and Manager.
Removes litter and debris from parking areas. Removes weeds from cracks and around signage, as required.
Operates trucks, tractors, chippers, edger's, saws, blowers, mowers, and other equipment.

Assists custodial and maintenance staff, as required.
Loads material, trash, brush, etc., onto truck; may sometime unload the same. 

Regular attendance is a must.
Ability to work well with others.
May be assigned other duties in addition to those listed. QualificationsGraduation from a high school or equivalent (GED). 

One (1) year of experience in grounds keeping. 

Certificates, Licenses and Registration: 

Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license.

Must be able to be insured by the County's insurance carrier. Supplemental informationAbility to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely and correctly.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions and procedure manual.
Bilingual (Spanish and English) with the ability to converse fluently in both languages preferred.
Intermediate expertise in using fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides to properly maintain and enhance grounds.
Intermediate knowledge with sprinkler and irrigation systems.
Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and methods of lawn and grounds care. Ability to understand, follow and give oral and written instructions.
Capability to act as lead of small crews.
Duties may change according to the changing needs of the County.
