About the Role:

As the Analyst for Mexican Ferrous Metals, you will step into a high-impact position spearheading the launch of new price forecasts and analytics for the region. Sitting within our premier Metals & Mining group, your primary focus will be providing actionable insights, sharp analysis, and commentary on current and future trends in the Mexican steel market, alongside coverage of the ferrous raw materials that feed it—including direct reduced iron (DRI) and ferrous scrap—whose supply chains and price dynamics span regional and global markets.

With our strategic regional focus centered on Mexican steel, you will leverage data-driven analytics and comprehensive supply-and-demand models to deliver market intelligence on Mexican steel while tracking the raw materials that drive it—analyzing DRI and ferrous scrap dynamics across regional and global trade flows. In this role, you will partner closely with a global network of analysts and engage directly with clients through presentations and industry events, playing a pivotal role in shaping our regional coverage.

The Team:

The Metals & Mining group is a highly collaborative, global team that provides premier data and research across the entire mining value chain. We value a proactive, enthusiastic mindset and offer strong mentorship as you partner closely with our global network of analysts, Data Analytics, and Product Management teams. This dynamic environment empowers you to spearhead new regional analytics while making a high-impact contribution to our strategic expansion in Mexico.

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Spearhead Regional Expansion: Play a key role in launching and maintaining the new Mexican ferrous markets report, with a primary focus on Mexican steel supported by analysis of the raw materials that feed it (DRI, ferrous scrap) across regional and global markets.

  • Deliver Actionable Intelligence: Provide sharp analysis and commentary on current and future trends in Mexican steel and in the broader ferrous raw materials markets (DRI, ferrous scrap), heavily supported by data-driven supply-and-demand modeling.

  • Engage with Market Leaders: Communicate insights directly to clients and prospects through published notes, virtual/in-person presentations, conferences, and briefing sessions.

  • Collaborate Globally for Growth: Partner closely with the Sr. Principal Analyst for US Ferrous Metals and a global network of experts, receiving strong mentorship to build and scale regional models.

  • Drive Commercial Success: Work collaboratively with Sales teams to support new business development, communicate the value of our insights, and conduct original data mining to uncover marketable findings.

  • Establish Best Practices: Manage project timelines effectively and document research methodologies to establish and maintain rigorous internal standards.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in commodity markets, with an essential understanding of market structure, trade dynamics, and macroeconomic drivers of supply and demand—ideally within steel and/or ferrous raw materials (DRI, ferrous scrap).

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English.

  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent numeracy skills with the proven ability to navigate and extract value from large, unstructured datasets.

Key Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to deliver professional presentations and build strong client relationships.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively alongside global S&P Global teams across different time zones.

  • A proactive, enthusiastic mindset with a strong eagerness to master metals commodities market analysis.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and project timelines simultaneously.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • An established, active network within the Mexican steel, scrap, or broader Latin American metals industry (highly preferred over strict years of experience).

  • Direct exposure to the metals market analytics.

  • Technical or academic background in data analytics, machine learning, or economic forecasting models.

Key Soft Skills:

  • Natural networking abilities with a proven track record of cultivating and maintaining industry connections.

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assist sales teams in translating complex analytical value to customers.

  • Highly inquisitive nature for conducting original research and identifying unique, marketable findings within datasets.
