Job Description

  • 0.6 FTE Part-time, 2 Years Fixed-Term position at HEW Level 7.
  • Westmead campus with flexible working arrangements.
  • Salary: $107,053 – $115,469 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading (Comprising salary of $64,231.80 - $69,281.40)

Coordinate communications that raise NICM Health Research Institute’s profile, partnerships and research impact.

The Opportunity
You will coordinate and implement marketing and communications initiatives that build the profile, reputation and impact of NICM Health Research Institute. Working across media, digital, social media, website, newsletter and promotional channels, you will translate complex health and scientific research into accurate, accessible content for specialist and non-specialist audiences.

You will work closely with researchers, Institute leadership, industry partners, donors, students and the University’s central Marketing and Media & PR teams. Your work will support research promotion, stakeholder engagement, community awareness, commercial opportunities and future research funding, while ensuring communications align with University priorities, governance requirements and brand standards.

You will also coordinate media and public relations activity, prepare communications materials, support internal and external events, and maintain stakeholder databases and promotional resources. This role requires sound judgement, strong writing capability and the ability to manage communications connected to sensitive, high-profile or emerging issues.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Integrated communications strategies increase awareness of NICM’s research, commercial activities and strategic priorities.
  • High-quality media, digital, website, newsletter and promotional content is delivered across approved channels.
  • Productive relationships with researchers, partners, donors, students and stakeholders strengthen engagement and knowledge sharing.
  • Communications performance, stakeholder engagement and research impact reports provide clear insights and recommendations.
  • Media, public relations and event activities enhance NICM’s visibility, reputation and research impact.

About You

  • Postgraduate qualification in communications, marketing, science, health or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated success in communications, marketing, media relations, public affairs or brand management within complex organisations.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to translate scientific literature and complex research for diverse audiences.
  • Proven experience managing media, public relations, branding, social media and communication strategies within organisational frameworks.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, research, negotiation, judgement and project management skills, supported by proficiency in Microsoft 365 and contemporary digital communication platforms.
