The Opportunity:
You will be embedded within a large, collaborative HKA team, supporting a major energy project in South Africa through the provision of commercial management, quantity surveying, procurement support, and cost control services.
Working closely with project delivery professionals, engineering teams, contractors, advisory specialists, and HKA's claims and disputes experts, you will help ensure that robust commercial processes, cost controls, and procurement strategies are in place to support successful project delivery, effective risk management, and wider commercial objectives.
Roles and responsibilities:
Reviewing and managing project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports, identifying risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement
Preparing and reviewing estimates, cost plans, and commercial evaluations to support project decision-making
Managing the commercial administration of contracts, including variations, change management, and payment assessments
Supporting procurement activities, including tender preparation, bid evaluation, contract awards, and supplier engagement
Providing commercial oversight of major electrical and mechanical works packages throughout the project lifecycle
Delivering cost analysis, financial reporting, and performance monitoring to support project controls and commercial governance
Identifying and mitigating commercial risks while supporting the achievement of project objectives
Producing clear, structured commercial reporting and recommendations tailored to a range of stakeholders
Collaborating closely with project controls, advisory, and disputes teams, ensuring commercial outputs align with broader project and business objectives
Supporting the evaluation and assessment of commercial issues, variations, and change events, working closely with HKA's claims and disputes teams where required
Assisting in the preparation of commercial records and documentation to support claim avoidance, claim resolution, and dispute-related activities
Providing commercial insight and cost analysis to support the assessment of entitlement, quantum, and project-related commercial matters
Skills and Experience:
We’re looking for a commercially focused professional QS who brings:
A degree in Quantity Surveying, with an added plus for Construction Management, Commercial Management, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager, or similar commercial leadership role on major energy, infrastructure, engineering, or construction projects
Registered PrQs, MRICS, MCIOB or MCIArb preferred.
Strong project quantity surveying experience, including budgeting, estimating, cost management, forecasting, and financial reporting
Demonstrable experience supporting procurement activities and managing subcontractor and supplier relationships
Experience managing commercial aspects of electrical and mechanical works packages within energy, power generation, transmission, renewables, or similar sectors
Strong understanding of contracts, change management, variations, and commercial risk management
The ability to interpret complex project information and provide commercially focused recommendations to support successful project delivery
Exposure to claims, variations, dispute avoidance, or commercial assessment activities
An interest in working within a consultancy, advisory, or disputes-aligned environment
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present clear, structured commercial insights to a range of audiences
