The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking an Early Career NASA Network and Computer Systems Engineer with a background in Linux system administration, network configuration, and IT security to join our Computer Systems Engineering team supporting NASA's human-rated spacecraft systems in support of our Nation’s space exploration initiative at NASA / Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.

Candidates should have background in Linux system administration (Red Hat and/or Ubuntu), an interest in computer systems engineering and cyber security, and, most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.

The candidate will join a team that provides a range of computer systems support to NASA at the Johnson Space Center including user support, security management, network design and operation, account management and provisioning, operation of IT infrastructure services, computing equipment setup, and subject matter expertise for NASA projects. 

In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to clearly communicate technical concepts with customers and engineering stakeholders. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.


Responsibilities:

  • Support the full lifecycle of end-user and server computer systems including procurement, operating system installation, security configuration, application installation, and inventory tracking.

  • Respond to customer requests for changes, fixes, and other user support.

  • Install and maintain development and collaboration tools for hardware and software engineering teams. Generate documentation and advise customers on best practices for using available tools.

  • Maintain accurate status and records of work performed using IT Service Management tools.

  • Monitor systems for security vulnerabilities and remediate findings.

  • Work with robotic, space vehicle, and simulation development teams to configure computer systems that meet NASA security standards and project requirements.

  • Generate, review, and update cyber security documents such as security plans, interconnection agreements, disaster recovery plans, risk assessments, continuous monitoring reports, waivers, and incident reports.


Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen for access to US Government facilities.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related disciplines required. 

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration (RHEL and/or Ubuntu), networking, and cybersecurity tasks in a customer-oriented, fast-paced technical environment. Greater experience is valued. 

  • Baseline knowledge of computer systems architecture including operating systems, networking, storage, firewalls, VPNs, and cybersecurity concepts.

  • Ability to document system configurations, processes, and architectures clearly and accurately.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical teams, NASA stakeholders, and service provider organizations.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple technical tasks, and adapt to changing requirements in a dynamic environment.

  • Proficiency with standard technical tools and workflows, and familiarity with ticketing, tracking, or project coordination tools (e.g. Jira, ServiceNow, or similar).


Desired:

  • Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cyber Security, or Graduate level coursework or research involving information systems or cyber security.

  • Experience as a help desk representative, computer technician, or system administrator.

  • Experience with NASA, DoD, or federal government security compliance frameworks, including FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and related cybersecurity documentation and assessment processes. 

  • Software development and scripting skills with Bash, PowerShell, Python, or other languages.

  • Relevant IT certifications such as ITIL, Cisco, Red Hat, VMware, ISC2, or SANS. 

  • Experience writing technical documentation and maintaining knowledge bases or configuration repositories. 

  • Experience working with software development teams and/or administering software development tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, Jira, and Docker/Podman.

  • Experience with any of the following is a plus: Service Now, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Group Policy, Puppet, Ansible, PowerShell, Tenable SecurityCenter, HCL BigFix, Splunk, GitLab Continuous Integration, Jenkins, Apache web server, Nginx, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL. 

  • Experience in the NASA/JSC environment or other highly technical, engineering-focused environments.

Pay Range:

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$58,400 - 116,900 USD
