Job Title: Director of Safety

Job Summary

Industrial Power Solutions, a Sundt Company, is seeking an experienced Director of Safety to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our company-wide safety strategy, management systems, and training programs. This executive leadership role is responsible for building and maintaining a world-class safety culture that protects our employees, supports operational excellence, and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The Director of Safety partners closely with executive leadership, operations, project teams, and field personnel to reduce organizational risk, improve safety performance, develop future leaders, and reinforce safety as a core value across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's Safety Management System (SMS) to support industrial electrical construction operations.

• Establish and maintain company-wide safety policies, procedures, standards, and best practices that promote a proactive safety culture.

• Oversee Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), site-specific risk assessments, and hazard mitigation programs.

• Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, DOT, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

• Serve as the company's primary representative during OSHA inspections, regulatory audits, and agency interactions.

• Develop and oversee safety and leadership training programs for field and office personnel, including OSHA 10/30, CPR/First Aid, electrical safety, equipment operation, and leadership development.

• Manage the company's Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring employee certifications and required training remain current.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop Safety Managers, Safety Specialists, and future safety leaders.

• Conduct routine jobsite audits, safety inspections, field observations, and compliance evaluations.

• Partner with Estimating, Engineering, Project Management, and Operations to integrate safety planning into project execution.

• Manage departmental budgets, PPE programs, safety equipment, vendor relationships, and other safety resources.

• Monitor and report key safety performance indicators including TRIR, DART, EMR, near misses, and leading indicators.

• Lead company safety committee meetings, leadership safety reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Promote behavior-based safety principles and foster employee engagement and accountability throughout the organization.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of progressive safety experience within the construction or electrical contracting industry.

• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing safety programs and personnel.

• Extensive experience supporting industrial or electrical construction operations.

• Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, NEC, and construction safety management principles.

• Experience managing high-risk construction activities including energized electrical work, trenching and excavation, confined spaces, elevated work, and heavy equipment operations.

• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering technical safety and leadership training programs.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and safety management software.

• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, coaching, and problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrated ability to influence safety culture and build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.

• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and regional offices as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), or similar professional certification.

• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.

• First Aid/CPR Instructor certification.

• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Work in both office and active construction environments.

• Ability to walk, climb ladders and stairs, and navigate active construction sites.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while visiting project sites.

• Ability to travel as required to support company operations.
