SummaryThe purpose of the class is to perform a variety of routine-to-moderately complex clerical work in the preparation and maintenance of department records, to perform a variety of clerical task as assigned, and to provide professional and courteous customer service at all times. The class is given a general outline of work to be performed and is free to develop work methods and sequences; work is reviewed periodically by supervisor.
Examples of dutiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares, processes, copies, indexes, files, transmits and/or maintains various department documents.
Ensures the security and confidentiality of files as appropriate.
Maintains records, prepare forms, verifies information and resolves moderately complex problems.
Types letters, memos, and other correspondence for the appropriate office or department.
Responsible for the hard copy or electronic filing system within the office in terms of categorizing, classifying and organizing information and data.
Examines documents created by other administrative support staff for accuracy as assigned.
Prepares Magistrate Court papers (i.e. Restraining Orders, Writ of Ejectments, Subpoenas, Pickup orders, Rule to Vacate, Summons and Complaints); processes expungement requests; processes court papers for service; pulls files for grand jury; creates case files; processes and files police reports; notarizes and sends affidavits to courts, attorneys, etc.; processes attorney requests such as for discovery or subpoenas; collects money for Incident Reports; conducts background checks; and prepares non services for Juror Summons.
Inventories citations and warnings that are written by Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office; delivers to the appropriate court; and, upon their dispositions, submits transmittals to the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV).
Records and co-ordinates therapeutic transports for psychiatric patients.

May collect fines and payments; issues receipts.
May be required to purchase and maintain office inventory such as paper, pens, toner, etc.
May tabulate, post and verify information as requested.
May assist in departmental budgeting.
May answer telephone and direct visitors to the appropriate location.
Assists co-workers with clerical duties as necessary.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation and Experience:High school diploma or GED
Requires at least two (2) years of related work experience.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status.
