Position Summary

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying, developing, and managing new and existing client relationships for commodity inspection. The role focuses on expanding market share across industries such as agriculture, minerals, metals, petroleum, chemicals, fertilizers, and other traded commodities.

The position requires a combination of technical understanding, commercial acumen, relationship management, and strategic business development to position the organization as the preferred inspection and testing partner throughout the commodity supply chain. 

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute business development strategies to achieve annual sales targets. 

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within commodity trading, producers, exporters, importers, processors, logistics companies, ports, financial institutions, and government agencies. 

  • Build a sustainable sales pipeline through prospecting, networking, industry events, referrals, and

  • Promote the organization's technical capabilities and service portfolio. 

  • Prepare and submit commercial proposals, quotations, tenders, documentation, and service agreements. 

  • Lead contract negotiations while protecting company profitability and compliance requirements. 

  • Expand service penetration with existing customers through cross-selling and upselling. 

  • Develop long-term strategic relationships with key decision-makers. 

  • Understand clients’ operational challenges and recommend value-added inspection and surveying solutions. 

  • Maintain regular customer engagement to improve retention and customer satisfaction. 

  • Resolve commercial issues in collaboration with operations and technical teams. 

  • Conduct customer business reviews and identify growth opportunities.  

  • Monitor commodity markets, trade flows, regulatory developments, and competitor activities. 

  • Identify emerging industries and market opportunities. 

  • Analyze customer requirements and recommend new service offerings. 

  • Provide market feedback to management for strategic planning. 

  • Develop growth strategies for target sectors, including Agro-Fertilizer, Energy, Minerals, Petroleum, Chemicals, and other traded commodities.

  • Achieve sales revenue, margin, and profitability objectives. 

  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts and pipeline reports. 

  • Manage pricing strategies within approved commercial guidelines. 

  • Ensure timely preparation and follow-up of quotations. 

  • Work closely with operations, logistics, and finance teams to ensure seamless service delivery. 

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to address customer requirements and resolve issues promptly.

  • Participate in service improvement initiatives. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Agriculture, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, sales, account management, or commercial roles, preferably within the commodity inspection, surveying, or related industries.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Preferably with experience in inspection, survey, sampling, and Q&Q assurance services within commodity markets.

  • Familiarity in the Agro-Fertilizer, Energy, Minerals, Petroleum, Chemicals, and related commodity sectors.

  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to commodity inspection services.

  • Understanding of international trade practices, contractual requirements, and risk management principles applicable to commodity transactions.

  • Experience managing key accounts and developing long-term client relationships.

  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and proposal development skills.

  • Ability to analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer requirements to identify business opportunities and growth strategies.

  • Customer-focused with strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently and across teams.
