The HR Manager – Global Biogas & Denmark plays a pivotal role in Shell’s Low Carbon Solutions (LCS) organisation, with dual accountability:

Global HR Manager for the Biogas business, one of the core and strategically critical portfolios within LCS with staff presence mainly in Denmark, US, and France. Country HR Manager for Denmark, ensuring compliant, high‑quality HR support for Denmark, which is a mid-size country for the Shell organization. Biogas is the core business for Shell Denmark.

This role is central to enabling Shell’s ambition to deliver more value with fewer emissions, supporting both the global energy transition and the strengthening of Shell’s footprint in Denmark. It offers high exposure, broad stakeholder management, and the opportunity to shape organisational performance in a dynamic and transforming business.

Business Context: Biogas

Biogas is a core pillar within Low Carbon Products, alongside businesses like Hydrogen, CCS, and Low‑Carbon Fuels. The portfolio consists of >13 plants in Europe (mostly Denmark) and 3 in the US. The HR Manager for Global Biogas, you will:

  • Partner with business VPs and GMs across a geographically diverse footprint (mainly Denmark and US) and manage the People Agenda for the Biogas business.

  • Support business model evolution toward more capital‑light, partnership‑driven structures which allows us to be competitive (profitable and safe) with our Biogas business.

  • Enable capability building, talent management, performance culture shifts and organisational simplification. The Biogas community consists of approximately 500 colleagues.

Business Context: Denmark

Shell Denmark currently hosts employees Biogas, Trading & Supply and several functional teams (Finance, Legal, HR, Corporate Relations and IT). As Country HR Manager for Denmark, you will:

  • Biogas Europe in Denmark has recently become part of the Low Carbon Solutions business in Shell and therefore further work will be needed to align and develop ways-of-working, capabilities, and mindset of being part of Shell as global energy company.

  • Ensure compliant and effective execution of all HR processes in‑country.

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Country Coordination Team (CCT).

  • Support recruitment, ER/IR agenda, policy compliance, succession planning, employer branding and external stakeholder management. Denmark has approximately 450 staff.

  • Lead the Facility Services team in Denmark who look after the 3 office locations as well as the associated services like canteen and maintenance.

What This Role Offers

  • Accountability for a global business area (Biogas) and an entire country footprint (Denmark). Represent HR in the Biogas Leadership Team.

  • Direct partnership with senior leaders across Shell, including Business VPs and country leadership.

  • Managing a team of HR professionals who for the Denmark HR Country Team, consisting of HR Business Partners, Policy & Benefits, Learning & Development support, Recruitment and Payroll. In additional the role has a functional reporting line with the Service Center in Manilla (for HR Operations) and Low Carbon Solutions Learning & Development and Talent.

  • Responsible for Facility Services, which is managed by a team leader who will report into the HR Manager.

  • Opportunity to shape strategic HR agendas covering transformation, organisational design, talent, DE&I and developing performance and safety culture.

  • Learn from HR colleagues by being member of and participate in HR Leadership Teams of both Country HR Managers and Low Carbon Solutions HR Manager.

  • Leadership of Denmark HR operations and influence over global Biogas people strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Business Partnering – Global Biogas

  • Partner with Biogas VPs and GMs to determine and execute the People Agenda.

  • Ensure workforce planning and capability development aligned with Biogas strategy and project funnel.

  • Lead integration of Talent, Leadership, Organisational Development, Learning and DE&I agendas across the business.

  • Drive organisational fitness, workforce competitiveness and OPEX/cost discipline.

  • Equip leaders to navigate transformation, drive performance, and role model expected behaviours.

  • Ensure sound succession planning for both Biogas leadership and Denmark critical roles.

  •  Strengthen leadership capabilities and performance culture globally and locally.

Country HR Leadership – Denmark

  • Lead all end‑to‑end HR processes across the employment lifecycle in Denmark.

  • Manage the HR Denmark team with a strong focus on development and delivery.

  • Guarantee compliant and efficient HR operations, policies, controls and ways of working.

  • Ensure country HR is seamlessly connected to global HR Operations and Centres of Excellence.

With and through the HR team:

  • Advises CCT, line managers and employees on HR matters, ensuring compliance with Danish regulations and Shell policies.

  • Drive ER/IR agenda, including union relations, labour law compliance and government authority interactions.

  • Ensure robust immigration and international mobility processes.

  • Manage in-house payroll solution that enable efficient and first-time-right pay and time.

  • Oversee local recruitment, coordinate with global resourcing where needed, and maintain a strong employer value proposition in Denmark.

  • Lead or support country-level roll‑out of global HR projects.

Who are we looking for / Requirements

We are looking for a seasoned HR leader with >10 years of senior HR business partner and management experience.

  • Experienced HR manager/business partner with strong HR generalist background and HR leadership experience.

  • Strong preference for an HR Manager who has experience in working in an international organisation and have has responsibility for a community of a similar size of the Biogas business. Important to be able to effectively manage the expectations and interests of a global company with reality and needs of a relatively new business with a dominant local footprint in Denmark.

  • Proven experience in leading HR for a business undergoing transformation.

  • Strong understanding of organisational performance.

  • Familiar with the Danish local employment laws and the trends regarding policies and benefits.

  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking.

  • Fluent in Danish and English

  • Experience in energy transition, Renewables, Biogas, Trading, Chemicals & Products or similar business environments would be a highly appreciated.

  • Experience navigating ambiguity, dynamic markets and complex organisational structures.

  • Proven track record in successfully managed a team of HR professionals.

  • Job is based out of Odense. Expected to be in the office several days a week.

  • Travel: with offices in Aarhus, Støvring and main office in Odense, the expectation is that the HR Manager is able to travel within Denmark. International travel will be limited. 

Reporting & Stakeholders

  • Reports to Vice-President HR for European Countries

  • Functional reporting line to the Vice-President HR Low Carbon Solutions & Power

  • Member of: Biogas Leadership Teams and the Denmark Country Coordination Team.

  • Leads a team of HR (6) and Facility Services (Team lead manages team of 5)
