Job Purpose:

The Section In-Charge is responsible for leading and overseeing all production activities within their section across three shifts, ensuring smooth operations, material availability, and adherence to the production plan. This role is pivotal in driving process optimization, improving equipment efficiency, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The Section In-Charge is tasked with managing resources, controlling costs, and implementing digital tools to streamline operations. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety, they ensure alignment with organizational goals, while leveraging data analytics to inform decision-making and enhance operational performance.

A. Boiler Operations & Performance Management
  • Lead operation of high-pressure steam generation systems and associated auxiliaries.
  • Ensure uninterrupted steam availability to all process units as per production requirements.
  • Monitor critical operating parameters and optimize boiler performance.
  • Achieve targets related to steam generation, fuel efficiency and plant availability.
  • Drive operational discipline through SOP adherence and control room governance.
B. Safety, Process Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure strict compliance with Boiler Act, IBR requirements and statutory regulations.
  • Drive implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) practices.
  • Lead HAZOP, risk assessments and safety audits for utility operations.
  • Maintain zero-harm culture through PTW compliance and safe operating practices.
  • Support emergency response and business continuity planning.
C. Reliability & Asset Management
  • Coordinate with Maintenance teams for preventive, predictive and shutdown activities.
  • Improve equipment reliability through data-driven analysis and root cause investigations.
  • Monitor performance of boilers, deaerators, pumps, compressors and steam distribution systems.
  • Ensure optimum spare management and shutdown readiness.
D. Energy Optimization & Cost Management
  • Drive fuel efficiency improvement initiatives.
  • Optimize steam generation cost and auxiliary power consumption.
  • Monitor boiler efficiency, heat rate and energy performance indicators.
  • Identify opportunities for waste heat recovery and utility cost reduction.
  • Support sustainability and decarbonization initiatives.
E. Team Leadership & Capability Development
  • Lead and develop utility operations teams across shifts.
  • Build technical capability in boiler operation, safety and troubleshooting.
  • Establish performance culture through coaching and operational reviews.
  • Ensure manpower productivity and competency compliance.
F. Continuous Improvement & Digitalization
  • Drive operational excellence projects and process optimization initiatives.
  • Utilize digital dashboards, SAP and utility monitoring systems.
  • Implement best practices in utility management and benchmarking.
  • Support automation and Industry 4.0 initiatives within utilities.

Education Qualification:

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, Thermal Engineering or equivalent.
  • Certified Boiler Operations Engineer (BOE) 

Work Experience (Range of years):

  • 15-20 years of experience in thermal utilities, boiler operations or power generation.
  • Minimum 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in Copper, Non-Ferrous Metals, Steel, Petrochemicals, Fertilizers, Power Plants or other large continuous-process industries.
  • Exposure to high-pressure boilers, steam systems, energy management and utility operations
