Medical Collector Specialist (Personal Injury & LOP) is responsible for managing a portfolio of personal injury accounts from initial billing through final payment. This role partners closely with attorney offices, patients, and internal teams to monitor case progress, obtain settlement updates, and collect outstanding balances in a timely manner.


The ideal candidate has experience working with Letter of Protection (LOP) accounts, personal injury billing, or healthcare accounts receivable and possesses strong communication, organization, and negotiation skills.

 

  • Manage an assigned inventory of Letter of Protection (LOP) accounts to maximize collections while maintaining excellent customer service. 
  • Contact attorney offices to obtain case status updates, settlement information, and payment timelines. 
  • Monitor aging accounts and proactively follow up to resolve outstanding balances. 
  • Review incoming legal correspondence and supporting documentation related to personal injury claims. 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all account activity and communications within the patient accounting system. 
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve account discrepancies and facilitate timely payment. 
  • Prioritize high-dollar and aged accounts to maximize cash collections. 
  • Identify accounts requiring escalation and communicate barriers to management. 
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, HIPAA, and applicable regulatory requirements. 
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with attorney offices and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

Required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • 2+ years of ASC revenue cycle OR orthopedic collections experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret insurance explanations of benefits and managed care contracts. 
  • Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external clients 
  • Ability to work independently while meeting productivity and quality expectations 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications 

Preferred

  • Experience with Letter of Protection (LOP) collections 
  • Personal injury or attorney collections experience 
  • Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle processes 
  • Experience with SIS, AdvantX, HST, Waystar, or similar patient accounting systems 
  • Familiarity with settlement processes and lien resolution
